En un pequeño pueblo del estado de Lousiana, la aparición de una serie de brutales asesinatos hace peligrar la convivencia entre vampiros y seres humanos, que hasta entonces han sido capaces de convivir en armonía gracias a una bebida japonesa compuesta de sangre sintética. Dicha convivencia no era bienvenida por todos, pues entre los vampiros desconfían y reniegan aquellos que prefieren seguir alimentándose de sangre humana, y por otro lado algunos hombres tampoco la desean. En ese entorno surge el polémico romance entre el primer vampiro que llega al pueblo, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer, "Quills"), y una camarera, Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin, "The Piano"), que puede leer la mente de la gente. Nueva serie de la HBO por parte del creador de "A dos metros bajo tierra", Alan Ball. Basada en la serie de novelas 'Southern vampire', de la escritora norteamericana Charlaine Harris.
