Juego de tronos arranca al final del verano. Amenanza un invierno duro, que puede durar una vida

entera. La lucha por el Trono de Hierro ha comenzado. Se extendera' desde el sur, donde el calor alimenta

conspiraciones, codicia e intrigas. Pasara' por las tierras vastas y salvajes del este y llegara' a las

tierras heladas del norte, donde una pared de hielo de 25 metros protege el reino de las fuerzas oscuras

del otro lado del muro. Reyes y reinas, caballeros y renegados, mentirosos, senores y hombres honestos.

todos participaran en el Juego de tronos.

La nacion de Poniente esta' dividida en siete provincias, los Siete Reinos, donde las estaciones duran

decadas y los inviernos son especialmente duros. Hay numerosos personajes agrupados en casas, y cada uno

de ellos lucha por conseguir sus propios intereses. La casa Stark (Sean Bean es Ned Stark), la casa

Baratheon, la casa Lannister y la derrotada casa Targaryen luchan por el Trono de Hierro de los siete

reinos. Mientras, al norte de los territorios de los hombres, una silenciosa y fria amenaza ('se acerca

el invierno') puja por cruzar el Muro, la gigantesca barrera que constituye la ultima defensa del mundo

civilizado.

La etnia Dothraki, de los jinetes de los caballos, no habla la lengua comun de los siete reinos, tiene un

idioma propio, el Dothraki. George R.R. Martin escribio' en sus libros las frases sueltas que salen en la

obra (Khal, Khaalesi, etc.), pero no el idioma completo. HBO contrato' para adaptar la serie a David J.

Peterson, un linguista que ha creado el idioma que da sentido a las conversaciones de la etnia.

Asi', el Dothraki de la serie de HBO, con influencias del ruso, el turco, el estonio o el swahili, posee

un sonido unico. Cuenta con un vocabulario compuesto por mas de 1800 palabras y complejas estructuras

gramaticales, aunque sigue siendo fiel a las estructuras existentes en la obra de Martin.

Segun Peterson, sus objetivos son dos: que los que hayan leido la obra no sepan si las palabras son

creadas por Martin o por el, y que los que no la hayan leido no se den cuenta de que es un idioma

inventado.
