Falling Skies comienza en el caotico mundo posterior a un ataque alienigena a la Tierra que ha dejado a la mayoria del planeta completamente incapacitado. Pasados seis meses de la violenta invasion inicial, los pocos supervivientes que han logrado salvarse de la masacre se han ido reuniendo a las afueras de las principales ciudades para empezar la dificil tarea de empezar a combatir a los invasores extraterrestres. Cada dia es una prueba de supervivencia. Los soldados, ahora todos ellos civiles, trabajan para proteger a la gente que tienen a su cargo al tiempo que tratan de comenzar la campana de insurgencia contra la fuerza alienigena invasora.
